Visiting Harrisburg

Visiting Harrisburg

Pennsylvania Capitol Building

Harrisburg is only a few hours away from where I live in Northern Virginia, but I’ve only made a trip here once in my life. You can tell by the few photos I have here, that this early in my travel days. As a matter of fact, this could seriously be the first local trip I had ever done in my life! The only reason I came to Harrisburg is because I wanted to visit all state capitols. This photo of Pennsylvania’s capitol building was taken over ten years ago.

Pennsylvania Harrisburg Downtown

For a city that few people have even heard of, Harrisburg is a much bigger than I had expected. There’s several things to do here, such as visit the Susquehanna river front shops and restaurants, a few museums to choose from, and even small islands along the river to visit.

Not too much to show here, some random shots I took while walking around the city. Harrisburg seemed to be well kept and not overcrowded with just 50,000 people here. I was surprised to later find out that in 2010 Harrisburg got rated as the second best place in the United States to raise a family!

My favorite view of Harrisburg was in the heart of the city. This was just a block away from the capitol building, but you can get a grew view of some of the smaller buildings in the downtown area as well as St. Patrick’s cathedral. The photo below shows the beautiful inside of the cathedral. I just so happened to visit them in 2007 as they were celebrating their 100 year anniversary!
