Asheville was more of a stopover than a true visit for me. On the way to the Smoky Mountains, my friend and I stopped here for some lunch and dinner and to grab a few drinks. Even from my short time here, Asheville stood out as one of North Carolina’s more eclectic cities. The town draws a fairly large and young crowd and is home to lots of live music, bars, restaurants, and artists.
I didn’t know that Asheville had such a big live music scene until I visited. It’s pretty easy to find a bar with live music, and the streets are lined with performers as well. A lot of the music I came across was country or bluegrass, including the band photographed below.
Although my visit was short, Asheville was a very lively town with plenty more that I could have explored. The main place I had wanted to visit was the Biltmore, the largest privately owned house in the United States. The admission price was more than I wanted to spend on this trip, so I decided to save it for another visit.
Instead, one of the more memorable moments from the evening was watching this drunk guy stumble around downtown throwing random insults at people until he finally got the attention of a police officer. I didn’t stick around to find out what happened, but he didn’t seem to be doing himself any favors!
