What to See

What to See

In my mind travelers are simply people who like to do their hobbies in different places. This could be trying different cuisines, enjoying the nightlife, outdoor trips, etc. Experiencing different cultures and sightseeing normally becomes natural part of everyone’s trip. No matter what type of traveler you are there are certainly several must see places in each country. Even if you have no interest in ancient structures and civilizations it would be a shame to visit Egypt and never see the great pyramids. If you’re like me and usually don’t spend too much time in museums you still wouldn’t feel right visiting Paris without checking out the Louvre. With that in mind I decided to make a list of the most important places in every country in the world. Hopefully this list will serve as a guide not only for me but for others looking for ideas in other countries, and I hope locals will also give me some advice on places I might otherwise miss.

I try to organize this list by keeping it diverse and representing a little bit of everything in each country. For example I automatically will visit every country’s capital, usually followed by their largest city or best city for culture, then a place great for natural beauty and wildlife, followed by historical places or spiritual places. This list is actually a very long on going battle and takes an incredible amount of time and research. I’ve been sporadically working on it for years! Hopefully one day I’ll have it completed and if and when that happens I will essentially consider this list my life goal. Each photo on the list serves as a check mark and maybe in the next few decades I will be able to conquer my own insane goals of visiting not only every major country, but most of the major places of importance in every country.

After actually traveling to these destinations I find it much easier to write about them and give a better account of what is important in each country. For example I had excluded the city of Herat from Afghanistan’s list, but after visiting it I think it is probably the most important city to see after Kabul. And just like I visited Herat despite not thinking much of it before my trip, I don’t follow the list religiously. I realize it’s far from perfect and its difficult to judge a place from word of mouth or internet. Click on a continent to the right to get started and please feel free to make suggestions!
