Capital - The Valley - Anguilla's capital, and only real town for that matter, is located in the center of the country along the coast. This small town is definitely not known for its night life or as a major tourist destination, but if you enjoy a nice relaxing time in a small tranquil Caribbean country then The Valley is what you're looking for. | |||||
Scrub Island - A very small island at only a few kilometers in length, this island has no man made structures except for an abandoned airport. As its name suggests, the island is covered with small scrubs such as cactus with a small population of goats. Although the island isn't covered with palm trees and resorts, it's a unique place and if you make a trip here, you're likely to have the island all to yourself. | |||||
Shoal Bay East - Shoal Bay East is said to be one of the beaches that everyone fantasizes about. There are very few resorts and people so the beach is generally unspoiled with the typical tropical scenery and crystal clear water everyone dreams about. | |||||
Capital - Saint Johns - This small capital has a population of around 25,000 and is the country's most populous city. Saint Johns is most famous for its large cathedral which was last built in the 1800s after the previous two were destroyed by earthquakes. It stands taller than other structures so it's usually a traveler's first glimpse of the country. Saint Johns also hosts an annual carnival that is said to be second in the Caribbean only to Trinidad. | |||||
Codrington - Built in 1666 by a man from England, this town was to be the island of Barbuda's main residential area. Supposedly the slaves that were kept in this town by the English badly mistreated, leading to the first ever slave rebellion in the New World in 1741. | |||||
Betty's Hope - Betty's Hope is a large plantation that was built in the mid 1600s. It was controlled by England and France at different time periods and both kept a large number of African slaves here until they were freed in the mid 1800s. | |||||
Nelson's Dockyard - A national park that is filled with a little bit of everything including history, beaches, nightlife, and more. It is also features English Harbour which used to be one of England's most important harbors in the Caribbean. | |||||
Capital - Nassau - Bahama's capital has a population of over 200,000 people, which is more than 70% of the total population of whole country. This city is also a very popular tourist destination with many people flying and stopping by on cruises to enjoy the nice tropical weather. | |||||
Atlantis - An incredible resort built on Paradise Island that has the world's largest marine habitat, the largest casino in the Bahamas, and a $15 million marina and much more. The resort also has some very extreme water rides such as the Mayan Temple water slide that drops you almost 60 feet and sends you at speeds up to 35mph. | |||||
Freeport - Freeport is the Bahamas second largest city and is located only dozens of miles off the coast of the United States. Freeport offers a more relaxing stay than Nassau and is visited by over one million people a year. | |||||
Inagua National Park - This national park is located near Cuba and is a bird watcher's paradise. It has over 80,000 flamingos in addition to large numbers of many other exotic birds. | |||||
Lucayan National Park - Located just outside of Freeport, this park features such landscapes that you would expect to find in mountainous regions of the United States. The park features six distinct ecosystems, and is very different from the rest of the country. You can find the normal tropical beaches, but might be surprised to find large cave systems and thick pine forests. | |||||
Capital - Bridgetown - This city was built by the English in the 1600s and has a population of 80,000. Both in Barbados and in London England you can find Trafalgar Square and a statue of Lord Nelson, but what's surprising is that ones located in Bridgetown are actually older than their English counterparts. | |||||
Barbados Wildlife Reserve - In this wildlife reserve you can find several different types of animals, but the Barbados Wildlife Reserve is most famous for its population of green monkeys. | |||||
Holetown - Holetown is Barbados's oldest establishment and was visited by the English in 1625. This city has a lot of history and places to explore and is the site of a small monument commemorating the English landing. | |||||
Capital - Belmopan - After a hurricane nearly destroyed the old capital Belize City, Belmopan became the new capital in 1970. The new capital is also culturally diverse, with a large mix of 5 cultures native to Central America. | |||||
Altun Ha - This ancient Mayan city had a population of up to 10,000 people at its peak. It became famous after a head made completely of jade weighing 10lbs was discovered inside the temple that had represented the sun god. The site has over 275 structures and covers 3 square miles. | |||||
Baboon Sanctuary - The locals refer to howler monkeys as baboons which heavily populate the sanctuary. These are not the baboons of Africa, but instead are America's largest species of monkeys famous for their raspy howls. The sanctuary is also home to many other types of wildlife and can be visited through its trails or by canoing its canals. | |||||
Belize City - The former capital of Belize had 75% of its buildings destroyed in a hurricane during the 1960s. Though it's no longer the capital's country, it is still the most populous city with many things still worth seeing. | |||||
Blue Hole - Blue holes are rare but they can be found all over the world. Belize's blue hole is said to be one of the best diving spots in the planet, and its natural coral reef that forms a ring around it definitely makes it the most beautiful. | |||||
Lamanai - Translated to English as submerged crocodile, the ruins of Lamanai are among the largest structures built by the Mayan empire. Lamanai is made up of a large pyramid and is the home of many animals of the jungle. | |||||
Capital - Hamilton - While Hamilton itself only has a permanent population of about 1,000, you can expect to see much more people in the capital as cruise ships, yachts, and freighters stop by this busy port. Bermuda is a very popular destination, especially among the British since it is still British territory. Hamilton is a great place to start your escape from the cold winters of Europe and North America. | |||||
Horseshoe Bay - Said to be Bermuda's most beautiful beach, this popular destination is always filled with people enjoying a swim in the tropical waters. | |||||
Royal Naval Dockyard - After the British lost their colonies in the Americas, they created a naval dockyard in Bermuda to help them reach out west. It served many purposes including world war I and II, but was eventually abandoned. Today the structures are still standing and many have been changed into museums. | |||||
South Shore Park - A protected area of some more beautiful beaches in Bermuda, this park also has a nice trail that you can hike along the coast. The trail covers a dozen beaches and also has some good viewpoints to see the coral reefs. | |||||
Capital - Ottawa - The capital of Canada is only a hour drive north of the United States, but this city has plenty to represent its culture. It is described by some of as one of the world's most beautiful capitals in the world and is best to visit in the summer or fall. | |||||
British Columbia - This western province of Canada is one of the best places in the world for outdoor enthusiasts. It has an endless amount of | |||||
Great Lakes - The great lakes are the largest freshwater lakes in the world, also making part of the border for the United States and Canada. Sailing in the great lakes is like sailing in the ocean, if you go out far enough you will not be able to see any land and you can encounter dangerous storms. | |||||
Arctic - The Canadian Arctic is made up of a few large provinces in northern Canada. The magnetic north pole is actually in Canadian territory as well. In the northern part of Canada you can see the norther lights, polar bears and get an idea of what Arctic life is like.Quebec - Quebec is very different from the rest of Canada as most of the population here speaks French. In fact, it was very close to becoming a separate nation not too long ago! Quebec will give you a completely different cultural experience from the rest of Canada. | |||||
Toronto - With a population of over two and a half million, Toronto is the biggest city in Canada. Toronto is also famous for the CN tower which is the world's tallest structure at 1815 feet. | |||||

Capital - Georgetown - Georgetown is said to be a combination of shopping malls, satellite TV, and other luxuries with a Caribbean atmosphere. Anyone who enjoys the luxurious will definitely find their standards in Georgetown. | |||||
Cayman Brac - The cayman brac bluff rises 140 feet on its highest end. This is mostly in a remote part of the island, so you can enjoy beaches or the plenty of caves to explore, some even rumored to have treasure buried by pirates. | |||||
Hell - Thick green vegetation surrounds 'Hell' on the Grand Cayman island while hell itself is a place where large back rock formations rise out of the ground. | |||||
Pedro St. James Castle - Constructed in the late 1700s, this castle is the oldest building in the Cayman Islands. It is also the building with the most history because it has served as a jail, a courthouse and to parliament. | |||||
Wreck of the Ten Sails Park - At the end of the 18th century a convoy of 10 ships were on their way to Europe. The leading ship struck a coral reef and sent out a warning to the other 9 ships behind. Instead, the other ships misinterpreted the signal and continued on until all 10 ships were destroyed. Amazingly, the locals were able to rescue the sailors and not a single life was lost. | |||||
Capital - San Jose - Costa Rica's capital is a busy one and the most visited by foreigners in Central America. Because Costa Rica is such a big destination, it has a very good tourist infrastructure making it very easy to get around and see all that San Jose has to offer. | |||||
Arenal - Vulcan Arenal is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It is constantly erupting and it is easy to view from a safe distance, making it a very ideal place to go to witness eruptions and see lava flow. | |||||
Chirripo - Containing the highest mountain in Costa Rica, this national park is set a higher altitudes and is made up of different ecosystems. Chirripo is the best place in Costa Rica to view its cloud forests. | |||||
Poas - Vulcan Poas is a very unique volcano and actually considered by some to be half volcano and half geyser. It has a nicely colored blue lake made of molten sulfur in its crater which is said to be the only one in the world of its kind. The hike up to the Volcano itself is very scenic and rewarding, but the climax is reaching the crater rim. Vulcan Poas also has the record for the highest geyser, after it fired a jet of steam 4 miles into the sky. | |||||
Santa Rosa - This park holds the largest protected area of dry tropical forest in all of Central America. This is a great place for bird watching, and is also a popular site for nesting sea turtles. Poisonous snakes such as vipers are also common in the forest, so hikers have to be careful. The national parks in Costa Rica are some of the best in the world, with travelers coming from all nations for a chance to view Costa Rica's wildlife. | |||||
Capital - Havana - Havana is said to be one of Latin America's most beautiful and interesting cities. It has many distinct areas from a very nice colonial section to even a China town. Havana is a great place for those who enjoy dancing and nice music. | |||||
Cueva Punta Del Este - Over 235 pictographs can be found painted inside the caves of Cueva Punta Del Este. They are said to be one of the most important art work of Indians in the Caribbean. | |||||
Santiago De Cuba - Cuba's second largest city, Santiago de Cuba is similar to Havana with its great atmosphere in arts and music. It is also a very important place as it took a big role in the overthrow of the former Batista government. | |||||
Capital - Roseau - This is one of the poorer capitals in the Caribbean, but it is still a nice friendly place to visit. The capital and Dominca together have the only remaining Indian Carib population in the eastern Caribbean. | |||||
Boiling Lake - Definitely one of the best attractions in Dominica, boiling lake is the second largest in the world. After a 3 hour hike up some inclining terrain, you'll then reach the lake itself. Scientists believe a crack in the earth allows heat to escape and then boils the lake. | |||||
Emerald Pool - The 40 foot waterfall going into a tropical pool surrounded by dark green vegetation earned this place the name of Emerald Pool This is a very picturesque place to visit and is a nice spot to take a quick swim. | |||||
Trafalgar Falls - Dominca's most beautiful waterfall is actually made up of two adjacent falls, one called Father, and the other Mother. | |||||
Capital - Santo Domingo - Not the most popular destination in the Caribbean, but Santo Domingo is actually the oldest remaining colonial city in the new world. The Dominican Republic was where Christopher Columbus first landed when he discovered the Americas. There is much to do in this city with its long history and great night life. | |||||
Bayahibe - Though the best place to go diving in the Dominican Republic, there is much more to this small coastal town. There is a large national park nearby that features rock carvings by the native Taino Indians and Saona Island, which is a nice place to relax is only a 45 minute boat ride away. | |||||
Cabarete - Santo Domingo's jewel city is Cabarete. It features luxury hotels and resorts with a very beautiful bay that is perfect for many water sports. | |||||
Museo Alcázar de Colón - This was once the home of Christopher Columbus's son Diego. Now it has been restored and converted into a museum. | |||||
Capital - Willemstad - A very colorful and beautiful city, Willemstad is not only the capital of the island Curacao but also of the Dutch Antilles itself which also includes Bonaire, Saba, Saint Martine, and Saint Eustatius. Most capitals in the Caribbean are usually small with only a handful of things to do, but Willemstad is quite large it split into two parts by a river. It is the largest port in the entire Caribbean, and carries lots of history and even a world heritage site. | |||||
Bonaire - The capital of the island of Bonaire, Kralendijk which means coral reef in Dutch, is an accurate description of the waters around the capital and Bonaire. The city is extremely small with a population of less than 2,000 and a main street that is only a few blocks long. Outside of the capital is the Washington-Slagbaai park which is a 1/5 of the entire island and is made up of tropical desert. | |||||
Saba - The tiny island of saba has a few things worth visiting. Its capital The Bottom is a tiny town with a few buildings while Fort Bay is the islands commercial center. Its biggest attraction is climbing the 1064 steps that lead to the top of Mt. Scenery which will give you a spectacular view of not just the island of Saba, but also neighboring ones as well. Mt. Scenery is the islands highest point at 3,000 feet and is made up of a lava dome of volcano. | |||||
Saint Estatius - The capital of this island is Oranjestad which doesn't even top a population of 1,000. The capital is split into the commercial area of upper town and the historical area of the lower town. The island of Saint Estatius also has a colonial fort built in the capital and an area known as Zeelandia which has several hiking trails offering splendid views. | |||||
Sint Maarten - On an island of less than 100km2 you can accidentally cross into the French country Saint Marten and not even realize it. The Dutch side is known for its more party like atmosphere and shopping malls, while the French side has nude beaches and is less developed than its Dutch counterpart. Sint Maarten is also famous for Maho Bay which one of the biggest destinations in the Dutch Antilles. | |||||
Capital - San Salvador - El Salvador has a bad reputation for its violent civil war, but the capital has made lots of progress since. A large and newly built cathedral is in the middle of the city in addition to memorials and museums for the civil war. | |||||
Alegria - Alegria is a very beautiful place in El Salvador that is decorated with dozens of species of flowers. It is one of El Salvador's most beautiful towns and has over 230 nurseries. | |||||
Cerro Verde - El Salvador's two largest volcanoes rise out of this park surrounded by lush tropical forests. This park is a bird watchers paradise and has good trails, even some that you can hike up to the summit for an amazing view. | |||||
Monte Cristo Forest - A place where humidity often reaches 100%, this national park is El Salvador's best cloud forest. With trees almost at 100 feet, the lower forest is very dark because of its natural canopy. | |||||
Tazumal - These Mayan ruins are the most preserved ruins in El Salvador as well as the most important. A statue made of the Mayan god of war was found in Tazumal. Human sacrifices were also believed to be made here in tribute to the Mayan god of war. | |||||
Capital - Nuuk - This capital is built along the western part of Greenland. It's not a very popular place to visit, but this small city is a very colorful one built along its mountainous coast. | |||||
Ilulissat Kangerlua - Greenland's greatest attraction is the ice berg packed bay of Ilulissat Kangerlua. The bay has ice bergs the size of apartment buildings that casually drift across the bay. There are always thunderous echoes of ice bergs calving in the summer time. | |||||
Norse Ruins - Vikings who once lived in Greenland arrived as early as the year 1200. Even though they lived in Greenland for hundreds of years they left few things behind. Their best preserved settlement is the Norse Ruins which was probably built in the 1700s. | |||||
Southern Fjords - Greenland has endless fjords across the whole country, but the southern fjords are said to be the most breathtaking and scenic. The area also has some of the best climbing in all of Greenland. | |||||
Capital - Saint George's - Grenada's capital is located along a deep harbor which is said to be one of the Caribbeans most beautiful. There are several red roofed Creole houses here that were built in the 1800s along the rolling hills of the city. | |||||
Fort George - Grenada's oldest fort became even more infamous after the former prime minister of Grenada was executed here in the 1980s. The prime minister ruled the island in with a communist type of government but was eventually overthrown after a power struggle. These events led to the invasion of US forces along with six other Caribbean nations. The bullet holes can still be seen in the walls of the fort where the prime minister was executed. | |||||
Grand Etang National Park - With plenty of trails and a crater lake located in the highlands of Grenada, this national park has some of the best hiking and scenery in the country. | |||||
Capital - Basse-Terre - Unfortunately this small French speaking capital doesn't have very many attractions. If you arrive to the capital you can stay here to soak in the culture of both African and French influences. | |||||
Chutes du Carbet - A drive up chutes du carbet will give you an excellent view of two enormous waterfalls. If you are feeling more adventurous you can continue to hike to both of the falls, one is 361 feet in height, and the other is 377 feet. | |||||
Parc National de la Guadeloupe - A large national park in Guadeloupe, you can either drive through this park or enjoy it by hiking on foot. Expect to find waterfalls, gum trees, and more in this rainforest. | |||||
Pointe-a-Pitre - The largest city in Guadeloupe, Pointe-a-Pitre is largely commericial with busy markets and high rise buildings. | |||||
Capital - Guatemala City - In Central America's biggest city, you can get a taste of what the busy life is like for the people who live here. Other than the culture and city itself, there isn't much else to see here except for museums about the Mayan and Guatemalan art. | |||||
Semuc Champey - A very impressive natural bridge made of limestone, Semuc Champey is almost 1000 feet in length. | |||||
Tikal Ruins - Not only Guatemala's best Mayan ruins, but also one of Central America's best is the Tikal complex. This complex has large pyramids almost 15 stories high and includes many other structures such as plazas, temples and more. | |||||

Etang Saumatre - This large salt water lake has many types of animals from flamingos to crocodiles. Etang Saumatre is the best place in Haiti to view wildlife and is located inland on the border with Dominican Republic. | |||||
Capital - Tegucigalpa - This busy capital has many attractions but the biggest is definitely the Suyapa Church. Pilgrims from all over Honduras and Central America travel to this capital to see the Virgin de Suyapa. This small statue is believed by many to do miracles and is located in the Basílica de Suyapa. | |||||
Bay Islands - These group of islands are located on the northern coast of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea. Tourism is a big part of the economy here so you won't have a problem finding your way around and getting nice accommodations. In the bay islands snorkeling or scuba diving is also widely available. | |||||
Copan - Abandoned in the 10th century, the mayan site of Copan was still one of their most important. It was discovered by Europeans and well over 600 years later, much of the site is intact and remains a very impressive place to visit. | |||||
La Tigra - The cloud forests of La Tigra are a bird watchers paradise filled with lots of other unique flora and fauna. The exotic animal called the agoutis are also found in La Tigra. | |||||
Pulhapanzak Falls - One of Honduras's best waterfalls, Pulhapanzak falls drop over 140 feet into a pool that is usually filled with locals enjoying a swim or family picnic. | |||||
Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve - Translated to English, the banana river reserve is not only a great place to view nature but also enjoy the great outdoors as well. This reserve is popular for it's wildlife and especially for white water rafting. | |||||
Capital - Kingston - Jamaica's capital isn't the most beautiful of cities in the Caribbean, or the safest for that matter. But this large city still is worth visiting and has some places everyone should definitely visit. Kingston was founded in 1693 and currently is home to over 600,000 Jamaicans. It was also the home of the most famous Jamaican, Bob Marley, whose house has been converted to a Museum. | |||||
Blue Lagoon - The blue lagoon isn't just another typical lagoon found in the Caribbean. It is arguably Jamaica's most beautiful, but what makes it even more spectuarl is that the laggon has several different springs at different depths that release fresh water. During the day time the Lagoon is known to change to different shades of blue to green. | |||||
Montego Bay - This is the tourist spot of Jamaica, here you will find all the tourists and one way streets lined up with nice restaurants in cafes. The beaches are excellent and there is plenty of night life. | |||||
Rose Hall Great House - The legend of the 'White Witch' is known to almost every Jamaican. Supposedly a spoiled woman in the early 1800s had mastered voodoo and had murdered several of her husbands. She also began to terrorize slaves and many believed she was responsible for other murders. Supposedly in the slave revolt during the 1830's she was murdered and her house burnt down. Her house has since been reconstructed, and many strongly believe that she still haunts the area. | |||||
Capital - Fort-De-France - With an area population of 135,000, Fort-De-France is a significant sized city in the Caribbean. The city is guarded by three colonial forts and has some good history. The first wife of Napoleon was actually born in Martinique, and a statue of her can be found in Fort-De-France. | |||||
Les Salines - This is one of the country's nicest beaches. The coastal area of the beach is not mountainous so even though higher elevations in other parts of the country are cloudy and maybe even have some rain, you can visit Les Salines to find it nice and sunny. | |||||
Saint-Pierre - Once called little Paris of the west Indies, this city was destroyed by a volcano in the early 1900s. Most of it has been rebuilt but it unfortunately just wasn't the same. You can still have a good time in this city, and visit the museums and see remains of buildings destroyed during the eruption. | |||||
Capital - Mexico City - As the largest city in the world, and third largest metropolis in the world, you can only begin to imagine how large this city is and how many things there are to do. You could easily spend a lot of time in the capital alone visiting all its hot spots and historical places, but the main attraction is the centro historico. | |||||
Baja California Peninsula - Baja California is emerging as another popular tourist destination. There are no ancient ruins or rainforests, here, but you can find other things from whale watching to even golfing. | |||||
Cascada de Basaseachi - Over 800 feet, the waterfalls of Basaseachi are the highest in Mexico, and are definitely worth a visit. | |||||
Yucatan - Yucatan is most famous for it's party city of Cancun. Cancun is especially popular with North America's during spring break looking to have a good time and enjoy the tropical weather. The rest of Yucatan is pretty much thick rainforests and ancient ruins. | |||||
Capital - Plymouth - Unfortunately illegal to visit, the official capital of Plymouth is off limits for your own safety. It was abandoned in 1997 after a nearby volcano did severe damage and remains active. Most of the population has moved to other towns but no new capital has been declared. | |||||
Montserrat Volcano Observatory - Since life in this island revolves around the volcanoes, you should definitely make a trip to the volcano observatory. Here you can get a tour and a good explanation of the active volcanoes on the island. | |||||
St. Johns - This is effectively the new capital of Montserrat but hasn't been declared yet. Here are all the main government buildings and services, and would be your best place to start exploring this small island. | |||||
Capital - Managua - Managua is one of the very few Latin American countries without a city center. The capital has faced many natural disasters and its city center was destroyed in the 1970s. Some other buildings have been restored such as the Old Cathedral with others have survived. This lakeside capital is slowly returning to its old self and each year becomes more worth visiting. | |||||
Isla de Ometepe - This island located in the middle of Lake Nicaragua is excellent for those who enjoy the outdoors. This small island is made up of twin volcanoes rising out of the lake that are covered with rainforests. | |||||
Laguna De Apoyo - At the top of the Apoyo volcano, you'll find the laguna de apoyo. This water filled crater is some of the cleanest and bluest in Central America, and because the volcano is considered dormant you're even welcome to take a swim. The bottom of laguna de apoyo is up to 200 meters in depth and is also Central America's lowest point. | |||||
Vida Silvestre - A protected refuge for turtles, Refugio de Vida Silvestre La Flor is nested by over 30,000 turtles a year. | |||||
Capital - Panama City - The capital of Panama is a large city with a population of over 1 million. The city has several different sections from its downtown area with large buildings, to the ruins of Panama Viejo to the colonial area. | |||||
Cayos Zapatillas - The small islands are only a short boat ride from the mainland, but their coconut palms and kayaks for rent, you'll feel like your a world away in paradise. | |||||
Darien National Park - Almost a million and a half acres, this national park is on the border of Colombia and Panama. It is the largest protected area in the Caribbean and Central America, you can find some amazing wildlife here from Harpy Eagles to Jaguars. | |||||

Pigeon Island - A national park of Saint Lucia, Pigeon Island actually is more of a historical place than a wildlife area. French pirates once used the island to attack Spanish ships. Down the road the British built a fortress here to monitor the French controlled island of Martinique. Much of the fortress walls are still standing and cannons and the barracks can still be found. | |||||
Capital - Philipsburg & Marigot - Although two separate capitals in two separate countries, on an island of less than 100km2 you can accidentally cross into the other side and not even realize it. Both the French capital Marigot and the Dutch capital Philipsburg both have similar scenery and history, but have different atmospheres. The Dutch side is known for its more party like environment and shopping malls, while the French side has nude beaches and is less developed than its Dutch counterpart. | |||||
