The United Kingdom, also known as Great Britain is made up of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. All of these countries are major tourist destinations, and typically are American's first international trip. The United Kingdom is backpacker friendly, and there are plenty of reasonably priced accommodations throughout the country. Look up London Hotels here. My trip to England was an extremely brief stop when I was in the military living aboard an aircraft carrier. In all honestly, this trip to the UK hardly counts for anything because I had so little time, but I will certainly return and have so much to look forward to. With all the ancient cities and castles to explore, the night life of London, and just the natural beauty and mountains of the UK, I could easily spend an entire summer here.

That is a picture of my aircraft carrier, my ride to England. On the right is me and some of my friends from the Marines, as you can see the police where pretty nice and let me wear their bobby hat for the picture.

 

 

I figured that because England was so much older than USA all the buildings and cities would have be very old as well and look almost shabby. I was surprised to find London for the most part to be very clean and modern. I tried to take a night shot of downtown London but it didn't come out very well, if only I knew of tripod's and night mode back then. This blurry picture of the Big Ben here isn't much better but at least I got something until I return. On the right is a picture of one of the British guards in London. I really regret not taking more photos but these were my very last days on the aircraft carrier after six months, and all I cared about was going home!
