In south western Virginia along the Tennessee border is the small town of Damascus. With a population barely surpassing 800, towns don’t get much smaller than this! Damascus is a popular destination however because of it’s great access to the surrounding mountains and the famous Creeper Trail. The surrounding photos show some scenes from Damascus. The town itself has several small houses, one or two restaurants, a few cool stores, and even a flea market at a gas station.

While walking around I noticed that the sidewalks had colorful bricks every so often with words inscribed in them. The bricks seemed to be honoring people that have passed away as well as other notable citizens from the area. Beyond a walk around Damascus, you likely won’t find too much else going on here. Below are some photos of the real purpose of my trip here. Renting a bike from one of the local shops and being dropped off at Whitetop mountain for a 17 mile (27km) return.
