Hawaii is a tropical island in the Pacific and has some of the most active volcanoes in the world, great scuba diving and surfing, and
mountainous rainforests for hiking. It also has a lot of history because it's home to Pearl Harbor where the Japanese attacked USA
during world war 2. Hawaii has a reputation for being safe and hospitable but I guess I had some bad luck. The first day in Hawaii I
took a bus and there was some big guy in a wheelchair nicely asking for directions. When no one could answer he went crazy and
started screaming and yelling. I was with some air force guy and I was sitting directly next to him so the guy put his hands under his shirt
and pointed something at us and told us to put our hands up. I don't know if he really had a gun or not, but he could have since he was
stuck in a wheel chair and obviously crazy; a gun could be his only defense since he can't stand up and fight. Probably unlikely, but either
way I wasn't trying to get shot, so we did what he asked and kept our hands up until he left at the next stop.

The second day I was walking alone when some girl from Brazil offered me a ride. I've taken dozens of rides from strangers, and actually
took one the day before. She offered to take me anywhere I wanted to go, and I asked only to go to some place a few minutes away,
and told her several times I could walk because it was close. I also told her I had a flight at 5pm when it was actually at 11pm. I said 5pm
because it was a random space A flight that is first come first serve, so I didn't want to take any chance of missing it. After she took me to
where I wanted to go she asked if she could go to a store, I said sure and she drove me to the other side of the island. A lot happened on
that drive but long story short, she slowly began to get really rude and eventually asked to borrow $50. Of course I didn't pay anything so
she threatened to leave me outside and make me pay $80 for a taxi. For the next few hours, she would start to head back then miss the
exit, or say she had to see a friend at a store or something. She even made me eat with her at a restaurant. I played along because I just
wanted to get back. She kept making up excuses, missing turns etc, thinking I would get stressed out about my flight and give her pay her
whatever it took to get back to the airport. Finally after being hostage for 4 hours I recognized familiar area and got out the car.

Other than those first two days everyone was nice to me in Hawaii and I never had any other problems. I know some people who
frequently travel to Hawaii and they were all shocked that those two things happened one right after another. Bad luck I guess!
Here are some pictures of Hawaii's natural beauty.
You can see this waterfall that is on the big island.
The picture below you can see clouds rolling into
the Hawaiian rainforest.

Above are some pictures of lava that overflowed into populated areas in the early 1980s. You can see a parking sign
that was left behind in the lava. On the left is where the lava meets the ocean. Below you can see smoke rising in the
distance because lava is still flowing to the ocean. Getting very close can be dangerous because if the winds turn you
could have some hot deadly gas blown in your face.
I stayed in Pearl Harbor while I was in Hawaii. On the left is the aircraft carrier the USS Lincoln making a port call.
To the right are the remains of the USS Arizona. It was sunken by Japanese warplanes and killed over 1000 people.
