California - Death Valley
California - General Sherman In Sequoia
California - Giant Forest In Sequoia
California - Golden Gate Bridge In San Francisco
California - Sand Dunes In Death Valley
California is the most famous of the 50 states, and also the most populated. What makes California such a great place is its wonderful
cities, warm temperatures, and its diverse outdoors. It's possible to visit one of the biggest cities in the world such as Los Angeles, go
scuba diving followed by mountain climbing, then sailing or trekking through a desert all in the same week.
These next to pictures are of Death Valley. Death Valley doesn't seem to be popular among American's it was
always somewhere I wanted to go. Death Valley is the second hottest place on the planet, coming in second after the
Sahara desert in northern Africa. The left picture is of some giant sand dunes taken in the middle of the summer. On
the right are some lifeless rock formations, too dry and too hot to support plants or animals. When I visited Death
Valley, the temperatures were in the mid to upper 120s, or around 53C.
The south west also has some of America's
biggest and most famous cities. I have
visited San Diego several times, Los
Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco. On
the left is a nasty picture of San Francisco's
golden gate bridge.
California
California has the largest trees in the world. On the left is in the Giant Fores during the winter, part of the Sequoias.
Some of these trees are thousands of years old, the largest is on the right, called the General Sherman. It's hard to
tell in the picture, but the tree is over 30 feet wide, much wider than the length of an average car to give you some
perspective. Since there is nothing bigger than the General Sherman, it is also the largest lifeform on the planet.
